Ep 1. Sliding Doors

In the first episode of season 4 of Broad City, titled "Sliding Doors," we join our favorite frenemies, Abbi and Ilana, as they navigate the ups and downs of their lives in New York City.

The episode opens with Abbi daydreaming about what her life would be like if she had made different choices. We see her imagining a parallel universe where she works as a personal trainer and lives in a fancy apartment with her boyfriend, Trey. However, in reality, Abbi is still struggling as an artist and living with her best friend, Ilana.

Meanwhile, Ilana is dealing with the aftermath of her breakup with Lincoln. She's trying to move on by sleeping with other people, but nothing seems to be helping. She also has an uncomfortable encounter with her former boss, Derek, who she hasn't seen since quitting her job at Deals Deals Deals.

Abbi and Ilana's paths cross when they both attend a fancy gallery opening. Abbi is there to try and sell her art, while Ilana is there to hook up with a wealthy art collector. However, things quickly go south for both of them. Abbi's art is rejected, and Ilana gets caught in a compromising position with the art collector's girlfriend.

The rest of the episode follows Abbi and Ilana as they try to make the best of their situations. Abbi decides to take a job as a cleaner for the wealthy people she had previously been trying to impress at the gallery, while Ilana tries to reconcile with Lincoln by attending a sex addiction meeting.

As always, the episode is filled with hilarious moments and witty banter between Abbi and Ilana. However, what sets this episode apart is the exploration of what could have been. By showing Abbi's alternate life, the episode asks the audience to consider what it means to be successful and whether our choices really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, "Sliding Doors" is a strong start to season 4 of Broad City. It sets up the rest of the season nicely by introducing new challenges for Abbi and Ilana to tackle while also staying true to what makes the show so beloved by fans.
