Bridgerton season 1 episode 6, "Swish," follows the aftermath of the previous episode's events. Simon and Daphne's relationship is strained after the reveal of their deception towards the Queen. Meanwhile, Colin Bridgerton is back in town and is reacquainting himself with his friends and family, particularly Penelope.
Throughout the episode, Penelope is seen struggling with her feelings towards Colin and her desire to confess her love to him. She confides in Eloise, who is hesitant to give her any advice that may lead her down a path of heartbreak. Things come to a head at the Featherington ball, where Penelope decides to take a chance and confess her feelings to Colin.
Elsewhere, Marina Thompson continues to be a focus of the Featherington family's attention, but their attempts to marry her off are becoming more desperate. She is trying to find a way to stay in London and avoid being sent away to the countryside. Lady Danbury offers Marina some advice on how to secure her future, leading her to make a risky decision that could either save or ruin her reputation.
The episode also sees the return of Simon's father, the Duke of Hastings. His arrival brings up painful memories for Simon, and the father-son relationship remains strained. However, as the episode progresses, the two begin to have meaningful conversations about their past and scars, leading to a touching moment of understanding.
Overall, "Swish" is a pivotal episode for many of the characters. Secrets are revealed, decisions are made, and relationships are tested. The themes of love, family, and reputation continue to be at the forefront of the show, as each character navigates their own path in Regency-era London.
