In season 5 episode 7 of Breaking Bad, "Say My Name," Walter White, otherwise known as Heisenberg, continues his reign as a drug lord.
The episode opens with a tense meeting between Walt and his former associate Mike, who is attempting to retrieve his share of the profits from their meth production. Walt, however, insists that Mike's men are no longer necessary and refuses to give him his cut.
Meanwhile, Walt brings Jesse on board as his new partner. The two of them work together to take over the remaining drug operations in their area. They forcibly take the stolen methylamine from a rival gang, and Walt becomes increasingly brazen and confident in his abilities as a kingpin.
In one of the most iconic scenes of the series, Walt confronts one of his rivals and demands that he "say his name" as a show of respect and acknowledgement of his power. The tense exchange proves to be a turning point for Walt; as he revels in his newfound authority, his relationships with those closest to him begin to unravel.
Ultimately, "Say My Name" is a testament to the duality of Walt's character. Though he is ruthless and willing to do whatever it takes to protect his business, he also has moments of vulnerability and insecurity. This episode marks a major shift in the series and sets the stage for the dramatic conclusion that is to come.
