Ep 16. Felina

In the final episode of Breaking Bad's fifth season, titled "Felina," the stage is set for a climactic showdown between Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his enemies. After being on the run for months, Walter is determined to take care of one last task before he dies.

The episode begins with Walter breaking into his former business partners' building to say goodbye to both Elliot and Gretchen Schwartz (Adam Godley and Jessica Hecht). With a rifle in hand, Walter confronts his former colleagues about their company Gray Matter Technologies, which they sold out from under him years ago. During the tense exchange, Walter succeeds in sweet-talking the couple into giving his remaining earnings to his children. He then leaves to face his final challenge: dealing with the neo-Nazi gang that he had collaborated with previously.

Meanwhile, Walter comes back to Albuquerque and somehow manages to retrieve an M60 machine gun and other needed equipments to take revenge on the gang. He then decides to use his own remaining pseudoephedrine to cook meth one last time, and asks his former associates, Lydia (Laura Fraser) and Todd (Jesse Plemons), for a meeting. Upon meeting, Walt add the ricin to Lydia's stevia, leaving her to die of ricin poisoning.

Next, Walter finds himself inside of the gang's drug-making laboratory, where he manages to kill Jack Welker (Michael Bowen) and his entire crew with the M60 and save Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). They have a touching, yet turbulent final exchange - together, until the very end, Walter gives Jesse the option of killing him with his own weapon, but Jesse instead opts to leave the premises for a better life, driving off into the night.

The final sequence of the episode shows Walter lying on the floor, in the very same laboratory that left him scarred in the first place. With a gunshot wound to the abdomen, he begins to bleed heavily as police reinforcements arrive at the scene. A familiar expression of peace overcomes his face as he fades away.

As an end to the darkness, "Felina" stands as a masterful conclusion to the story of a man who thought he had nothing to live for, only to realize that the key to everything was hidden in plain sight all along. The episode as a whole gives its viewers a chance to reflect upon Walter's journey - his successes, his failures, and his ultimate redemption. Breaking Bad's final season finale encapsulates everything that made the show such a pop culture phenomenon.
