Brassic is a British comedy-drama series that premiered on Sky One and Sky Go in 2019. The show is set in the town of Hawley, a fictitious borough in Lancashire, and follows the lives of a group of working-class friends who get up to all manner of scrapes and heists in order to make ends meet.

Joe Gilgun, best known for his roles in Misfits and This Is England, leads the cast as Vinnie, a charismatic and impulsive petty criminal who is determined to find a way out of his dead-end life in Hawley. Vinnie has a complicated relationship with his best friend Dylan (Damien Molony), a smarter but socially awkward young man who is prone to anxiety attacks. Meanwhile, Michelle Keegan plays Erin, Vinnie's former flame who is now engaged to a wealthy man but still secretly feels a pull towards her old life.

The show blends elements of comedy and drama, with fast-paced action sequences and emotionally charged scenes alternating throughout each episode. The humour is often of a dark and irreverent nature, with gruesome physical gags and cutting one-liners that keep the audience on their toes.

Some of the recurring themes in the show include the characters' struggles with poverty and addiction, as well as their efforts to maintain their friendships and relationships amidst the chaos of their daily lives. The show presents an unvarnished view of working-class life in modern Britain, with a particular focus on the challenges faced by young people who feel trapped in their circumstances.

One of the highlights of the series is the outstanding performances from the lead cast, particularly Joe Gilgun who brings a raw energy and intensity to the role of Vinnie. Gilgun's comic timing is impeccable, but he also excels in the more dramatic scenes, showcasing a range and depth of emotion that is truly impressive. Keegan also shines in her performance as Erin, bringing a vulnerability and complexity to a character who could easily have been written as one-dimensional.

Another strength of the show is its visual style, with a gritty and realistic aesthetic that suits the subject matter perfectly. The show's creators have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into capturing the look and feel of a small Northern town, with a focus on the mundane details of everyday life that are often overlooked by other shows.

While Brassic may not be for everyone, it has certainly made an impact on those who have tuned in. With its mix of comedy, drama, and action, the show is a refreshing departure from the usual fare on British television, and its depiction of working-class life is both timely and important. Fans of dark comedy and gritty drama are sure to find something to enjoy in this wild and unpredictable series.

Brassic is a series that ran for 4 seasons (28 episodes) between August 22, 2019 and on Sky Go
