In season 3 episode 8 of the reality television series Botched titled "Totally Waist-ed," plastic surgeons Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif receive consultation requests from three patients with botched plastic surgeries on their waists. The doctors' mission is to help these patients regain confidence and their desired physical appearance.
The episode opens with Dr. Dubrow consulting with a woman named Yasmine, who underwent multiple procedures on her waist that left her with visible scars and deformities. Yasmine reveals that she previously got fat removed from her body which resulted in depression, weight gain, and changes to her abdominal wall structure. Dr. Dubrow plans to fix the asymmetries, scars, and muscle damage caused by Yasmine's previous surgeries.
Dr. Nassif talks to a male patient named Vicente who underwent a liposuction procedure that left him with a damaged belly button. Vicente wants Dr. Nassif to fix his belly button as it is causing him discomfort and hindering his active lifestyle. Meanwhile, a woman named Cindy consults with Dr. Dubrow, revealing that she underwent a tummy tuck procedure and received an infection during her recovery process. The infection caused an unanticipated scar, and Cindy turned to the Botched doctors to help correct the chest deformity that developed.
As the surgeries commence, Dr. Dubrow begins to work on Yasmine's waist by cutting out excess skin and scar tissue. He maneuvers the muscle and fat layers of Yasmine's abdominal wall to create an even appearance and shape. Dr. Dubrow explains that the previous surgeries damaged Yasmine's abdominal wall, making the procedure more complicated than usual. However, Dr. Dubrow's exceptional surgical experience and precision allowed him to fix the damage and recreate the abdominal wall structure to avoid future issues.
Dr. Nassif operates on Vicente's belly button, creating a natural appearance. Dr. Nassif says that it is impossible to erase Vicente's previous scars completely but can improve the overall appearance of the area. Dr. Nassif creates a new belly button that compliments Vicente's body shape without creating any noticeable scarring.
In the final surgery of the episode, Dr. Dubrow performs a breast reduction surgery on Cindy coupled with tissue expansion to correct her chest deformity. The tissue expansion involves expanding the breast tissue with an inflatable balloon, allowing the doctors to stretch the skin to form new breast tissue. Once the tissue had grown, Dr. Dubrow removed the balloon and started reducing the size of the breasts. The result was a more visually appealing chest, free from previous damage.
Overall, Botched season 3 episode 8 'Totally Waist-ed' showcases how Dr. Dubrow and Dr. Nassif used their surgical mastery to help these patients gain back confidence in their appearances. The episode highlights the complexities and nuances of plastic surgery and how important it is to get it right the first time. Every patient's case is different, and the Botched doctors demonstrate that surgical techniques need to be personalized based on the patient's skin elasticity, body structure, and individual health. By providing these tailored procedures, Botched gives people the chance to correct their botched surgeries and regain confidence in their bodies.
