Detective Harry Bosch is back for a fourth season of the Amazon Prime series, based on Michael Connelly's best-selling novels. When we last left Bosch at the end of season three, he was on suspension pending an investigation into his actions during a volatile case.
As season four opens, Bosch is still on suspension and has been working on his own, using his time to further investigate the case that landed him in hot water. Meanwhile, his adversaries in the department are closing in on him as they attempt to bring him down for good.
The episode opens with Bosch in his home, listening to some jazz music and looking through case files. He's clearly been hard at work, but he's also restless and eager to get back to work officially. His daughter, Maddie, stops by to check in on him and he sends her off to school.
Next, we see Bosch meeting with his lawyer, Honey Chandler. She's confident that they'll be able to clear his name and get him back on the job, but Bosch is frustrated with the delay. He wants to be working and feels like he's losing valuable time.
Meanwhile, we meet a new character, Detective Coltrane. He's a member of the Robbery Homicide unit and is investigating a particularly brutal murder. Coltrane is young and eager, but lacks the experience and instincts that Bosch possesses. When Bosch shows up at the crime scene, he quickly realizes that Coltrane has missed a key detail that could crack the case wide open. He gently points it out and Coltrane is grateful for the help.
Back at the police station, Bosch meets with Lieutenant Grace Billets. She tells him that the department is still investigating the case that got him suspended and that they've hired a private investigator to collect evidence against him. Billets warns Bosch that he needs to be careful because the PI is known for his underhanded tactics.
As the episode progresses, we see Bosch starting to investigate a new case involving a prominent lawyer. The lawyer is accusing his client, a wealthy businessman, of stealing valuable artwork from his home. Bosch is intrigued by the case and begins digging deeper, despite the fact that he's not supposed to be working while on suspension.
Throughout the episode, we also see glimpses of Bosch's personal life. He's been dating a waitress named Eleanor and seems to be finally moving on from his failed marriage. However, he's also haunted by memories of his ex-wife and daughter, who were killed in a tragic accident.
In the final moments of the episode, Bosch gets a call from Coltrane about the murder case. They've found a suspect and Bosch is eager to get involved. He knows that the victim's family deserves justice and is more than willing to put in the work to make sure they get it.
Overall, the season four premiere of Bosch is a strong start to what promises to be another tense and thrilling season. The episode sets the stage for Bosch's ongoing battle with his superiors in the department, while also introducing a new case that will test his skills and instincts as a detective. Fans of the series will be eagerly tuning in to see how it all unfolds.
