In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations season 1 episode 48, titled "The Genin Documentary," the focus shifts from the main characters to some of the newer faces in the show. As the title suggests, this episode takes on the form of a documentary, with the camera crew following around the three teams of genin (the youngest ninja rank) as they go about their daily lives.
The documentary crew, led by a purple-haired woman named Namida Suzumeno, is hoping to capture the experiences and struggles of these young ninja as they undertake missions and hone their skills. Namida joins Team 5, consisting of Wasabi, Namida herself, and Metal Lee, as they embark on a mission to track down a missing cat. Along the way, they encounter some obstacles, including a particularly feisty dog and some meddling kids, but ultimately succeed in finding the cat and returning it to its grateful owner.
Meanwhile, Team 10 (Shikadai, Inojin, and their new teammate, Chocho) is also dealing with a mission, although theirs is a bit more dangerous. They're charged with guarding a VIP at a high-stakes card game, but trouble arises when a group of thieves attempts to steal the prize money. Inojin uses his painting abilities to distract the thieves, while Chocho uses her strength and Shikadai uses his wit to take them down. It's a successful mission, and the VIP is impressed with their skills.
Finally, Team 7 (Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki) is featured as they train with their sensei, Konohamaru. As they spar with each other, the camera crew captures footage of their individual fighting styles and techniques. It's a chance for viewers to see the strengths and weaknesses of each character, as well as the dynamic between them as a team.
Overall, "The Genin Documentary" is an enjoyable deviation from the series' usual plotlines. It allows for some character development for the newer, less explored characters and a chance to see them in action. The documentary format also adds a fun twist to the storytelling and gives the episode a unique feel. While it's not a crucial installment in the series, it's a nice change of pace and a chance for viewers to get to know the next generation of ninja a bit better.
