The mayor and sheriff are using their power to control the townspeople and enrich themselves, while keeping outsiders at bay. The Cartwrights become targets of the conspiracy when they refuse to comply with the town's strict rules and demand justice for the wrongly accused salesman.

The Cartwrights must navigate their way through the dangerous terrain of Sweethaven while fighting for justice and exposing the corrupt officials. They ally themselves with the few residents in the town who share their values, hoping to bring peace and prosperity back to Sweethaven.
