The second episode of Bodyguard season 1 picks up right where the first left off, with Police Sergeant David Budd still struggling to balance his personal and professional life. After his heroic actions on a train that prevented a terrorist attack, Budd has been assigned to protect the UK’s Home Secretary, Julia Montague, who is a controversial figure in the political world due to her views on national security.
As the episode starts, Budd is dealing with the fallout from his actions on the train, including being hailed as a hero by the media and dealing with the trauma of killing a man. He is also having trouble connecting with his estranged wife and their children.
Meanwhile, Montague is dealing with her own set of issues, including opposition from her own party and death threats from extremist groups who disagree with her policies. She is also struggling with the ins and outs of her new security detail, including the fact that she can’t go anywhere without being surrounded by armed guards.
The episode jumps right into the action when Montague is targeted in an assassination attempt during a public speech. Budd is able to save her life, but the incident raises questions about who is behind the attack and whether it was an inside job. Montague’s political rivals are quick to use the attack to their advantage, painting her as a reckless and dangerous figure who needs to be removed from office.
As the investigation into the attack continues, Budd finds himself drawn into a world of political intrigue and backstabbing. He is forced to work closely with Montague and her advisors, including her ambitious aide, Rob Macdonald, and her ex-husband, Roger Penhaligon, who is a member of parliament.
The episode is tense and dramatic, with plenty of twists and turns to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It explores complex themes like loyalty, betrayal, and the blurred lines between personal and professional relationships. At its core, however, it is a thrilling political drama that will leave viewers wanting more.
