Ep 6. Mountain Lake Falls

In this episode of Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting Series, Bob takes us on a journey to a beautiful mountain lake with a gorgeous waterfall. Bob calls it a "happy little place" and he is ready to show us how to create this magnificent landscape on canvas.

As Bob starts painting, he uses light blue and white to create the sky. He then adds a light pinkish peach color to the clouds and blends it with a clean brush. Next, Bob paints the distant mountain range by using cool grey shades and blue.

For the next step, Bob creates the mountain lake by using a wet on wet technique. He starts with a deep blue color and applies it to the canvas diagonally. Then, he adds some green and yellow to the mix and applies it to the canvas, blending it with the blue. Bob highlights the water with white, making it look like the water is moving naturally.

The next phase for Bob is to paint the forest which surrounds the mountain lake. He applies several shades of green to the canvas by using downward strokes, following the shape of the mountain. He then adds some darker shades of green and brown to create the trees and to give depth to the painting. Bob emphasizes that we should not cover up all the blue in the background as it gives the illusion of depth.

The centerpiece of this painting is the waterfall, and in this episode Bob makes it look like an inviting oasis. He first applies a thin application of white to where the waterfall will drop, with light wispy strokes. Then, he applies a mixture of blue, white and a touch of green, to create a gentle flow, making it look like the water gradually cascades down the rocks.

Finally, Bob adds some highlights and shadows to the painting to give it more definition. Then, he steps back and admires his work before declaring it complete.
