In Boarding School Juliet season 1 episode 9, titled "Romio and Char and the Present," the story takes a more lighthearted turn as the Black Dogs and White Cats prepare for the upcoming Christmas party. The episode focuses on Romio Inuzuka and Char Westcott's attempts to find the perfect gift for each other, all while trying to keep their feelings for one another hidden.
The episode opens with Flora, Eigo and Somali excitedly discussing the upcoming Christmas party at Dahlia Academy. We learn that the tradition is for students to exchange gifts, and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the event. However, as soon as Romio and Char hear about the gift exchange, they both start to panic. They realize that they need to find the perfect gift for each other, but they don't want to give anything too obvious that might give away their feelings.
The majority of the episode is spent following Romio and Char as they search for gifts. Romio enlists the help of his roommate Hasuki Komai, who advises him to buy something practical, since Char is always thinking about her duties as the prefect of the White Cats. Romio decides to give Char a white scarf, but he struggles to keep it a secret when Char comes to visit him in the Black Dog dormitory.
Meanwhile, Char enlists the help of her loyal Black Dog, Scott Fold, to help her find the perfect gift for Romio. She decides to give him a book about the history of Dahlia Academy, but as she's trying to sneak the book into Romio's room, she gets caught by the other Black Dogs. They all tease her about her crush on Romio, but she denies it vehemently.
As the day of the Christmas party approaches, Romio and Char both struggle to keep their feelings under wraps. They constantly second-guess their gifts, wondering if they're too obvious or not good enough. Romio even goes so far as to buy a backup gift, just in case the scarf doesn't work out.
Despite their nerves, both Romio and Char manage to give each other their gifts without anyone noticing. It's a sweet moment between the two, as they both realize that they share a deeper connection than just their roles as the leaders of rival factions.
The episode ends with a fun twist, as all the students gather for the Christmas party and exchange gifts. Some gifts are practical, like the gloves Flora gives Hasuki, while others are silly or sentimental. We see Romio wearing the scarf Char gave him and looking incredibly pleased with the gift.
Overall, "Romio and Char and the Present" is a fun, charming episode that showcases the softer side of Boarding School Juliet. While there isn't a lot of action or drama, the episode is a welcome break from the tension of previous episodes. It's also a great reminder that even in the midst of a fierce rivalry, love and friendship can still flourish.
