In Blue Heelers season 4 episode 21, titled "The Angel's Share," the arrival of two visitors in Mount Thomas raises suspicion among the locals. The first is Ethan, a Scottish backpacker who seems to be down on his luck and struggling to find work. The second is Craig, an old friend of Tom's from Melbourne who claims to be in town on business.
As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that both men have hidden agendas. Ethan is not just a backpacker but a whiskey smuggler, and Craig is more than just a friend of Tom's - he is also a member of the police force's internal investigation team.
When a local man is found dead in the bush, it quickly becomes apparent that there is a connection between the murder and the whiskey smuggling activities. The investigation leads the Blue Heelers team to an underground whiskey tasting event, where they discover some surprising truths about the victim and the people involved in the illegal whiskey trade.
Meanwhile, Maggie and Adam are dealing with problems of their own. Maggie is struggling to come to terms with the fact that her son is growing up and starting to make his own decisions, while Adam faces a difficult decision when he is offered a job he has always dreamed of - but at the cost of leaving Mount Thomas behind.
As the episode comes to a close, the Blue Heelers team make some tough choices and face some difficult truths. With the whiskey smuggling ring dismantled and the murderer brought to justice, the town of Mount Thomas can breathe a sigh of relief - but at what cost?
