In Episode 8 of Blue Exorcist season 2, "From Father to Son," the focus shifts to the complicated relationship between Rin and Fujimoto as the past catches up to the present.
The episode begins with Rin reflecting on the situation at hand. He's just been through a difficult fight with Lucifer and now he's left wondering if all the training and all the battles are worth it. While he's lost hope, everyone else seems to be moving forward. Even as he watches his friends attempt to come up with a new strategy, Rin seems to be stuck in place.
Meanwhile, the focus of the episode shifts to Fujimoto. Although he's no longer alive, his legacy continues to loom large over Rin and the other exorcists. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn more about Fujimoto's troubled childhood and how it ultimately led him to become an exorcist.
As Fujimoto struggles to reconcile his past with his present, he begins to understand the importance of the relationships he's built with the people around him. With a renewed sense of purpose, he sets out to right the wrongs of his past and make amends with those he's hurt before it's too late.
Throughout the episode, Rin and Fujimoto's relationship takes center stage. Rin has always struggled with feeling like a burden to his father, and now that he's discovered that Fujimoto is actually his biological father, those feelings have intensified. As Rin grapples with this new information, he's forced to contend with the idea that he may not be as different from his father as he once thought.
As the episode draws to a close, Rin and Fujimoto finally have the chance to confront each other about their complicated relationship.
