The Harvest of Kairos is an episode from the third season of the science fiction series Blake's 7. In this episode, the crew of the Liberator receive a distress signal from a planet called Kairos, and decide to investigate.
When they arrive, they find that the planet is inhabited by a group of women who have been kept in thrall to a group of men who use them as laborers. The men keep the women in line through the use of a device called a mind probe, which they use to control their actions and thoughts.
One of the women, Servalan, manages to escape and comes aboard the Liberator. She tells the crew that the men are planning to use the women as part of a breeding program, with the aim of creating a new slave race. The crew of the Liberator decide to intervene and try to free the women from their captivity.
They discover that the men on the planet have technology that is far more advanced than they thought, and they are forced to use all their skills and ingenuity to try and escape with the women without being detected. Meanwhile, Servalan has her own agenda and is not entirely trustworthy, leading to tensions within the group.
The episode is notable for its focus on the issue of gender politics, and the way that the male characters are forced to confront their assumptions about gender roles. It also features some strong performances from the cast, particularly Jacqueline Pearce as Servalan. Overall, The Harvest of Kairos is considered to be one of the standout episodes of season three, and a must-watch for fans of the series.
