Blake's 7 is a British science fiction television series that originally aired from 1978 to 1981. It follows a group of rebels led by Roj Blake who are fighting against a totalitarian government known as the Terran Federation. They travel through space aboard the spaceship Liberator, encountering various allies and enemies along the way. Season 2 episode 6, titled "Trial", sees the crew facing a dilemma when they are accused of a crime they did not commit.
The episode begins with the Liberator approaching a planet called Xenon, which is known for its advanced technology. Avon suggests that they should stop and try to obtain some of this technology, but Blake disagrees and decides to continue on their way. However, before they can leave the planet's orbit, they are intercepted by a group of Federation ships. The crew discover that they have been accused of stealing a device known as the Tarial cell, which is essential for the planet's survival. Blake insists that they are innocent and offers to help the Xenon government in any way possible, but the authorities refuse to believe him.
The crew are taken to the planet's surface and put on trial. They are represented by a lawyer named Chesku, who seems more interested in furthering his own career than getting them acquitted. Blake discovers that the true culprit is a man named Kasabi, who had been aboard the Liberator before they arrived at Xenon. He confronts her and demands that she confess, but she refuses and insists that they are all guilty. While the trial is ongoing, the crew begin to experience strange visions and hallucinations, which they believe are caused by a device in the courtroom.
As the trial progresses, the crew realize that there is more to the case than meets the eye. They discover that the Tarial cell has actually been destroyed, and that the authorities are using the trial as a means of covering up their own mistakes. Blake begins to formulate a plan to prove their innocence and expose the corruption of the Xenon government. With the help of the Liberator's advanced technology and some quick thinking on the part of the crew, they manage to turn the tables and bring the true culprits to justice.
"Trial" is a tense and dramatic episode that explores themes of justice, corruption, and the power of technology. The crew are thrust into a situation where they are forced to defend themselves against false accusations, and must use all of their skills and ingenuity to clear their names. The episode also features some great performances from the cast, particularly Paul Darrow as Avon and Gareth Thomas as Blake. Overall, "Trial" is a standout episode of Blake's 7 that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
