In the Black-ish season 3 episode 7, entitled "Auntsgiving," the Johnson family is preparing for their annual Thanksgiving gathering with a twist - it's focused solely on the aunties. Dre's sister Rhonda is in town from her job as a traveling nurse, and he invites every aunt in the family to the festivities, along with their guests. Dre is hoping that this will bring the family closer together and provide some much-needed bonding time, but things quickly spiral out of control as everyone has their own agendas and drama to deal with.
At the center of the chaos is Rhonda, who is not exactly the most beloved member of the family. She's known for being opinionated and abrasive, and she's been absent from most family events for the past few years. Dre is hoping that Auntsgiving will be a chance for her to reconnect with everyone, but Rhonda has other ideas. She's brought her new boyfriend, a much younger man named Rodney, and she's determined to make him feel at home - even if it means ruffling some feathers in the process.
As the family arrives at the Johnson house, tensions are already running high. Pops is feuding with Ruby, Dre's mother-in-law, and the rest of the aunties are divided into their own cliques. The kids are excited to see their favorite aunts, but they quickly get pulled into the drama as well. Jack and Diane are tasked with keeping an eye on Rhonda's dog, a feisty chihuahua named Lil' Richard, and they quickly become overwhelmed by his demanding personality.
Meanwhile, Dre is trying his best to keep the peace and make sure that everyone feels welcomed. He's even donned a special apron for the occasion, emblazoned with the family motto: "Black Excellence." However, his efforts are repeatedly stymied by the various crises that arise throughout the day. Junior is struggling to impress Rhonda with his new DJ skills, Ruby is waging a war against the other aunties over who gets to use the oven first, and Bow is dealing with a sensitive issue involving her sister and her sister's girlfriend.
Despite all of these obstacles, the family manages to come together for a meal that is both chaotic and heartwarming. They reminisce about the past and share stories of their lives, and even Rhonda starts to open up about some of the difficulties she's been facing. Rodney is a hit with the kids, Lil' Richard's antics provide some much-needed comic relief, and everyone leaves feeling a little bit closer to each other.
As the episode comes to a close, Dre reflects on the value of family and the importance of coming together, even when things are hard. He realizes that he may not have been able to create the perfect Auntsgiving, but he's proud of the effort that everyone put in, and grateful for the love and support that his family provides. Like all families, the Johnsons have their flaws and their struggles, but they also have an unbreakable bond that keeps them strong. In the end, that's all that really matters.
