Aspiring tattoo artists and the staff of Harlem's Black Ink Crew return for another season featuring drama and ink. In season 8 episode 6 titled "Black Ink Blues", viewers are taken on a journey as they catch up with the ongoing personal and professional struggles the staff faces.
The episode revolves around the shop's newest additions, Jess and Young Bae, who are attempting to bond over their shared experiences of being Asian Americans and women in the tattoo industry. But the pair's newfound friendship might be short-lived. In a bid to become a more successful tattoo artist, Jess has been spending all of her time in the shop burning the midnight oil, which hasn't sat well with Bae or the rest of the crew. Bae feels like Jess is taking away her time to shine and her potential clients, which could lead to internal conflict within the shop.
Meanwhile, Alex is looking for support from the crew as he reckons with the recent mental breakdown he had that resulted in him storming out of the shop. Ceaser and the other staff members are skeptical that Alex's fragile emotional state can handle the pressure of working at Black Ink, and they relay their thoughts to him. Unexpectedly though, Alex rallies and agrees to take on the challenge as he decides to battle his demons head-on.
Being a new father, married life and running a business aren't easy for Ceaser, as he juggles the multiple demands of his life. In this episode, he struggles to balance his desire to keep his staff motivated, his family responsibilities, and the needs of his clients all at once. Also, he has been feeling a lot of pressure from his dominating girlfriend, Suzette, who wants him to commit to her, leaving him to feel torn between his family and her. Will he be able to find a balance that works for him and make the right decision?
Similarly, Donna is dealing with a family crisis of her own as her mom goes through surgery, which has left Donna anxious and nervous. Although she tries her best to keep it together in front of her co-workers and customers, their support proves to be vital and helps her successfully cope with her mother's medical concerns. Will Donna be able to overcome her challenges while still putting clients first, or will her personal priorities suffer?
Overall, in the Black Ink Crew season 8 episode 6, viewers will confront all the regular struggles – jealousy, insecurity, internal conflicts, familial worries, and balancing between work and life. It's an episode about how the staff faces their problems with solidarity, sometimes strife, and also their professional growth and evolution as tattoo artists and individuals.
