When Bernard gets sick with a high fever, his friends Fran and Manny step in to take care of him. However, their attempts to nurse him back to health only seem to make things worse. Manny tries to cook Bernard a nutritious meal, but ends up burning the food and accidentally setting the kitchen on fire. Fran brings over a box of herbal remedies, but Bernard refuses to take them, insisting that he only trusts conventional medicine.

As Bernard's condition deteriorates, he starts to experience vivid hallucinations. He imagines himself in a series of surreal dream sequences, encountering a variety of strange characters who seem to embody different aspects of his personality. Meanwhile, Fran and Manny begin to argue over the best way to treat Bernard's illness. Fran insists that he needs bed rest and plenty of fluids, while Manny believes that he should be kept active and engaged.

Eventually, Bernard's fever breaks and he begins to recover. However, the experience has left him in a reflective mood. As he reflects on his hallucinations, he begins to question the way he lives his life. He decides to make some changes, starting with a big spring cleaning of his shop. He also decides to break up with his girlfriend, who he realizes is not the right match for him.

The episode ends with Bernard feeling renewed and energized, thanks in part to the efforts of his friends. As he prepares to open his shop for the day, he reflects on the importance of doing what makes you happy, rather than conforming to societal expectations. The show ends with a shot of the three friends, looking out over the London skyline and preparing for whatever new adventures come their way.

Overall, "Fever" is a funny and thought-provoking episode that explores the themes of friendship, self-care, and personal growth. It features great performances from all the actors, particularly Dylan Moran as Bernard. The surreal dream sequences add a fun and whimsical touch to the show, while the underlying message about the importance of following your own path is sure to resonate with viewers. Whether you're a fan of Black Books or just looking for a good laugh, this episode is definitely worth a watch.
