In season 10 of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, the host explores the unique cuisines and cultures of various countries and regions around the world. In episode 2, titled "Undiscovered Hawaii," Andrew travels to the beautiful archipelago of Hawaii to uncover the undiscovered flavors of Hawaiian cuisine.
Andrew's journey begins on the island of Oahu, where he samples a variety of traditional Hawaiian dishes, including poi and laulau. He visits a local taro farm to learn about the importance of this starchy root vegetable in Hawaiian cuisine and discovers a unique way of preparing it as a dessert.
Next, Andrew heads to the Big Island, the largest of Hawaii's islands, where he meets with local farmers and fisherman to learn about the sustainable farming and fishing practices that are at the heart of Hawaiian cuisine. He tries a variety of fresh seafood, from octopus to sea urchin, and learns about the different cultural influences that have shaped Hawaiian cuisine over the years.
While on the Big Island, Andrew also visits a unique farm where they grow and process vanilla beans, a flavor often associated with French cuisine but that is also a staple in Hawaiian cooking. He samples a variety of vanilla-infused dishes, including a savory vanilla risotto.
Andrew's journey takes him beyond the traditional tourist destinations and into the heart of Hawaii's local food scene, where he discovers hidden gems and meets the people who are keeping traditional Hawaiian cuisine alive. From the flavors of the ocean to the spice of the land, Andrew uncovers the many unique flavors of Hawaii that are waiting to be discovered.
