In season 2, episode 5 of Bitchin' Rides, titled "Orange Is the New Orange," viewers are taken behind-the-scenes of Kindig It Design, a custom car shop in Salt Lake City, Utah, where master builder Dave Kindig and his team create some of the hottest rides on the market.
The episode opens with Kindig and his crew working on a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for a client who wants it to be orange. Kindig and the client have a creative disagreement about the shade of orange to use, as the client initially wants a brighter hue while Kindig recommends a more subdued color. Ultimately, the client decides to trust Kindig's expertise and goes with the subdued shade. The team then sets to work on customizing the Camaro, including fabricating a new dash and center console, installing new custom seats, and upgrading the suspension.
Meanwhile, Kindig's team is also tasked with working on a 1956 Nomad, which will be featured in the SEMA Show later that year. The car has a lot of rust and damage from years of neglect and poor maintenance, but Kindig and his crew are determined to bring it back to life. The team carefully removes the exterior trim and body panels and begins the process of repairing and repainting the body. They also install a new custom interior, complete with custom seats and a new center console.
Another project on the books for Kindig It Design is a 1955 Mercedes Gullwing, which has a unique history. The car was originally owned by William Randolph Hearst, and later belonged to well-known car collector Jay Leno. The current owner, a collector from California, wants Kindig to restore the car to its former glory. The team begins by addressing some of the car's mechanical issues, including its transmission and brakes. They also set to work on the exterior, stripping the car down to the bare metal and addressing any rust or damage. The Mercedes Gullwing is a rare and valuable car, so Kindig and his team take extra care to ensure that every detail is perfect.
As the episode progresses, viewers see the progress of all three projects, as well as the various challenges that come up during the build process. Kindig and his team are faced with tight deadlines, difficult mechanical issues, and unexpected setbacks, but they work together to overcome these obstacles and deliver high-quality builds to their clients.
Overall, "Orange Is the New Orange" offers an inside look at the creative process behind Kindig It Design's custom car builds. From the initial design phase to the final touches, viewers get to see every step of the process and witness the teamwork and dedication that goes into each of these one-of-a-kind builds.
