Ep 13. Five Minute Sled (Christmas Episode) / The Gwelf in the Garden

Big and Small are really excited because it snowed overnight and settled; deep and crisp. Big knows what would be the best fun in the cold weather: bringing out his sled Daffodil and tobogganing down the hill! Small thinks they should ride together but Big insists that the sled would travel too slowly with both of them sitting on board, so he climbs up on his own. He is supposed to take a five-minute turn with Small, but Small is impatient for his five minutes and wants to join in the fun more quickly. However, when Small finally gets to sit on the sled he stares down the hill in front of him and is terrified: what looks like a gentle, fun slope to a big Big is a dizzyingly steep drop for a small Small. Small hesitates. Big sees that Small is afraid and realises that perhaps they should, after all, ride down the slope together - and so they do: and it's great fun for both of them. / Small's favourite night time story book is about the mischievous Gwelf, who sneaks in gardens and eats turnip sandwiches. One evening they hear a whomp, whomp, whomp outside and Small is convinced it's the Gwelf - even though Big assures him that the Gwelf doesn't exist: he is only in stories. But Small still decides to go out and investigate - and Big goes along, too. After creeping around in the moonlight, bumping into each other and into trees, Big and Small finally capture the Gwelf in a sack. Only it's not a sack, it's a ball that was caught up in a tree and hitting the roof with a whomp, whomp, whomp... Small looks disappointed - until he realises that just because the Gwelf isn't in their garden, it doesn't mean he's not in another gardens... And Big can only agree.
