In Bewitched season 3 episode 16, titled "Soapbox Derby," Samantha's nephew, Tommy, comes to visit her and Endora. Tommy is excited about participating in the annual soapbox derby, a competition for miniature cars, and hopes to win the coveted trophy.
Darrin is initially hesitant about letting Tommy participate, as he deems it dangerous, but Samantha convinces him to let the boy have his fun. Darrin also agrees to help Tommy build his own car.
Meanwhile, Gladys Kravitz is her usual nosy self and becomes suspicious of the goings-on at the Stephens' home, particularly when she sees Darrin and Samantha working on a miniature car in the backyard. She enlists the help of her husband Abner to spy on the family and find out what they are up to.
The day of the soapbox derby arrives and Tommy competes against several other young boys. Darrin and Samantha cheer him on from the sidelines, along with Endora and several other witches from the neighborhood who have come to watch the race.
As expected, Gladys and Abner show up to watch the race too. But when they see Tommy and his car winning the race, they become suspicious again and accuse the Stephens of cheating.
Darrin and Samantha try to prove their innocence, but Gladys refuses to believe them. In the end, Tommy's sportsmanship and Darrin's honesty win the day and he is declared the winner of the soapbox derby fair and square.
This episode is a fun and exciting look at a childhood tradition that is still enjoyed by many today. It also showcases the importance of honesty and sportsmanship in competition, lessons that are just as relevant now as they were back then.
