In the season 3 premiere of Beverly Hills 90210 titled "Misery Loves Company", the gang returns to Beverly Hills after spending a summer apart. Brenda is back from Minnesota, Kelly is back from Europe, and Dylan is back from Hawaii. However, things aren't quite as rosy as they seem. Brenda is still harboring feelings of resentment towards Kelly for kissing Dylan while they were still dating, and Kelly is trying to reconcile with Dylan but can't seem to get past her guilt.
Meanwhile, Brandon is struggling to balance his new job as a cabana boy at the Beverly Hills Beach Club with his schoolwork. He's also still trying to move on from his breakup with Emily Valentine, who is now dating another guy at college. Andrea, who is now the editor of the school newspaper, is worried that her paper won't be taken seriously because of her age and lack of experience.
Despite their individual struggles, the gang tries to come together for a party at Steve's house. However, tension is still high between Brenda and Kelly, and Steve is dealing with his own issues after his parents cut him off financially. The party ends in disaster when a group of uninvited guests trash the house and a fight breaks out.
As the episode ends, the gang is left to pick up the pieces and try to move forward. Brenda and Kelly reconcile, but it's clear that their friendship will never be the same. Dylan admits to Kelly that he's not over her, but she tells him that they can't be together right now. Brandon decides to quit his job at the beach club and focus on school, while Andrea is inspired to write an investigative piece for the school newspaper.
"Misery Loves Company" sets the tone for the rest of the season, which will see the gang navigating new relationships, personal struggles, and the ups and downs of high school life in Beverly Hills. As always, the show tackles complex issues with heart and humor, making it a beloved classic of the '90s.
