Ted Crisp is a research and development manager at Veridian Dynamics, a heartless corporation that specializes in creating and selling some of the most questionable and downright bizarre products imaginable. Along with his colleagues, including the dedicated and slightly frazzled Linda Zwordling and the morally ambiguous Phil Myman, Ted navigates the insanity that comes with working for Veridian--a company that has little regard for human lives or basic morality.
In this particular episode, entitled "Bioshuffle," Veridian Dynamics is tasked with creating a new and improved version of an agricultural product that it previously created--a tomato that can communicate when it needs water or other nutrients. While the original version of the tomato was a huge success, it had one major flaw--it had the tendency to scream loudly when it was hungry or thirsty, causing great distress to anyone within earshot.
Ted and his team manage to create a new version of the tomato that doesn't scream, but they soon discover that there is a catch. The bacteria used in the new tomato's genetic makeup starts to mutate, causing the tomato to transform into a dangerous and aggressive plant that is capable of attacking anyone who comes near it.
As the team works frantically to contain the threat, they are forced to deal with their own ethical dilemmas. Veronica, Ted's boss, orders them to cover up the danger and continue with production anyway, while Phil sees this as an opportunity to potentially make a lot of money off of the mutated tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Linda is horrified by the notion of creating a genetically modified organically sensitive plant that could potentially wreak havoc on the world. As the situation continues to spiral out of control, Ted is left to decide whether to take action to protect the public or continue to serve the greedy interests of Veridian Dynamics.
With its biting satire and memorable characters, "Better Off Ted" is a hilarious and thought-provoking comedy that takes a sharp look at the darker side of corporate America. "Bioshuffle" is a standout episode that highlights the series' unique blend of humor and social commentary, and is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys sharp and witty television comedy.
