Benidorm is a British sitcom that focuses on a group of British tourists and their antics on holiday in the Spanish resort town of Benidorm. Season 7 episode 1, titled "Episode 1," follows the regular cast of characters as they set off on their latest adventure.
The episode opens with the arrival of the Garvey family at the Solana resort. Mick Garvey (Steve Pemberton) is thrashing around in a swimming pool, trying to prove a point to his wife Janice (Siobhan Finneran) about the quality of the resort. She is unimpressed and orders him out of the pool. Meanwhile, their son Michael (Oliver Stokes) and his girlfriend Janey (Crissy Rock) are taking selfies and enjoying the Spanish sunshine.
Next, we meet new character Kenneth (Tony Maudsley), who has taken over as manager of the Solana resort. He is dressed flamboyantly and is clearly excited to take charge. His first act as manager is to meet and greet all of the guests, including the Garveys and the Dawsons, who are making a return to the resort.
The Dawsons, Jacqueline (Janine Duvitski) and Donald (Kenny Ireland), are celebrating their wedding anniversary at the resort. Jacqueline is keen to rekindle the romance in their relationship, but Donald is preoccupied with his golfing holiday.
We also get to know the staff at the Solana, including Jacqueline's old flame and barman Mateo (Jake Canuso), receptionist Lesley (Tim Healy), and hotel manager Joyce (Sherrie Hewson).
As the episode progresses, we see the usual hijinks and misunderstandings that are synonymous with the show. Jacqueline and Donald's relationship hits a snag when Donald insists on playing golf instead of spending time with his wife. Mick tries to impress Janice by showing off his dance moves at the resort's pool party, but ends up embarrassing himself. Meanwhile, the Garveys' family friend, Madge (Sheila Reid), makes a dramatic entrance when she arrives at the resort dressed as a flamenco dancer.
Kenneth is faced with a dilemma when he realizes that the resort is double-booked with a group of swingers, who are expecting a special party. He must find a way to satisfy both the swingers and the regular guests without causing any offense.
Throughout the episode, there are plenty of one-liners, sight gags, and comedic moments that keep the audience entertained. Whether it's Mateo's attempts to charm Jacqueline or Joyce's colorful language, there is never a dull moment during this first episode of season 7.
Overall, "Episode 1" sets the scene for another season of outrageous and hilarious antics in Benidorm. It is a must-watch for fans of the show, and a great introduction for anyone who is new to the series.
