The episode opens with a panoramic view of the beach and town of Benidorm, a popular tourist destination on the eastern coast of Spain. The scene then moves to the Solana Resort, where we see all the main characters preparing for a new holiday season.
We are quickly introduced to the Garvey family, who are returning to the resort for the ninth year in a row. Joyce and her husband Monty are accompanied by their daughter Bianca, who is pregnant, and her partner, Tony. They are greeted by the resort's manager, Janey, and her assistant, Billy.
Next, we meet the Maltby family, who are staying at the resort for the first time. Mick and Janice are joined by their daughter, Michaela, and her fiancé, Martin. They are excited to start their holiday, but their enthusiasm is dampened when they see the rundown state of their apartment.
Meanwhile, the resort's barman, Mateo, is dealing with the return of his cousin, Troy, who has come to Benidorm to start his new job as a holiday rep. Troy is over-confident and quickly rubs Mateo and the other staff members the wrong way. On his first day on the job, he already starts to annoy guests, including the Garveys and the Maltbys, with his cheesy sales pitches and incessant flirting.
The episode also introduces several new employees at the resort, including a new receptionist, Sam, a new barmaid, Roxanne, and a new hairstylist, Kenneth. While Sam struggles to get to grips with her new job, Roxanne quickly makes her mark by flirting with all the male guests. Kenneth, however, is having a hard time convincing anyone to let him do their hair.
As the day progresses, tensions rise at the Solana Resort. The Garveys and the Maltbys are both unhappy with the state of their apartments and demand to be moved to better accommodations. Mateo and Troy continue to clash, with Mateo threatening to resign if Troy is not fired. And at the end of the day, it is revealed that there is a thief operating at the resort, stealing cash and valuables from the guests' rooms.
Overall, the first episode of the fourth season of Benidorm sets the stage for another hilarious and entertaining holiday season at the Solana Resort. With a mix of new characters and old favorites, there is sure to be plenty of drama, comedy, and surprises in store for both the guests and the staff.
