Benidorm is a British sitcom that revolves around the lives of a group of Brits on holiday at the Solana Resort in the Spanish coastal town of Benidorm. The show's debut episode introduces the audience to the various characters that will become the focal point of the series.

At the start of Episode 1, we meet the Garvey family, who are travelling to Benidorm on holiday. The family consists of parents Mick and Janice, their daughter Chantelle, and her boyfriend, a bouncer named Michael. The Garveys are your typical working-class, fun-loving northern English family.

Elsewhere, we meet Martin and Kate, a middle-aged couple who are on holiday to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. Martin is a bit of a snob, looking down on those around him, while Kate is more easy-going and down-to-earth.

At the Solana Resort, we are introduced to the hotel's staff, including the manager Joyce Temple-Savage. She is a no-nonsense woman who takes her job seriously but has a soft spot for her staff. The receptionist is the flamboyant and over-the-top Gavin, who is more concerned with his appearance and flirting with guests than doing his job. Then there is the barman Mateo, who is the object of many female guests' attention due to his good looks and Spanish charm.

As the holidaymakers settle into their rooms, it becomes apparent that the Garvey family and Martin and Kate are not going to get along. Martin is appalled at the Garveys' behaviour, and the feeling is mutual. Chantelle and Michael are more interested in partying than spending time with her parents, which further annoys Mick and Janice.

As the night wears on, the holidaymakers head to Neptune's Bar, where they are entertained by a drag act. Joyce's son, the musical star Kenneth, also makes an appearance, adding to the fun. However, things take a turn when Martin and Kate bump into the Garveys, and insults are thrown back and forth.

Meanwhile, Gavin is trying to impress a group of female guests by pretending to be the manager, and Mateo is trying to juggle the demands of the guests and Joyce's expectations.

In a hilarious scene, Mick and Janice leave Neptune's Bar and accidentally wander into a strip club, where they are surprised by the female dancers and the clientele. They manage to escape before things get too out of hand.

The episode ends with Martin and Kate returning to their room, only to discover that someone has used their balcony as a toilet. They are disgusted and vow to complain to the manager about the standard of the hotel.

Overall, the first episode of Benidorm sets the tone for the series. It's a light-hearted comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously and pokes fun at both Brits abroad and the hotel industry. The characters are all larger than life, and there are plenty of laughs to be had. The episode leaves the audience wanting more, eager to see what happens next in the holidaymakers' adventures in Benidorm.
