In the first episode of the Norwegian series Beforeigners, viewers are introduced to a unique scenario - people from different time periods are suddenly appearing in modern-day Oslo. These people, referred to as "beforeigners," come from various eras such as the Viking Age, the 19th century, and the Stone Age.
The episode starts with a man named Lars Haaland, who is a police officer in Oslo, investigating a case where a dead woman has been found floating in the water. While investigating the case, he comes across a woman named Alfhildr Enginnsdottir, who explains that she is a Viking from the year 790 A.D. and was brought to the present day through some unexplained phenomenon.
Meanwhile, another beforeigner, called a "19th century gentleman," is causing trouble at the immigration center. He is seen to be disruptive and violent, and it is revealed that people are afraid of the beforeigners and are not welcoming them with open arms.
Lars is assigned to work with Alfhildr to investigate the recent incidents involving the beforeigners. This proves to be a challenging task as Alfhildr does not understand modern-day technology or language. While they're investigating, they come across different incidents, including a group of people who are protesting the presence of beforeigners in their country.
During their investigation, they cross paths with another beforeigner - a caveman from the Stone Age named Jorgen who communicates primarily through grunts and gestures. It is revealed that he was found wandering around a construction site and brought to the immigration center.
As the episode progresses, Lars and Alfhildr slowly start to form a rapport and work better as a team. They realize that the beforeigners are facing numerous challenges adjusting to their new environment, and the hostility they experience from the locals makes things even more difficult.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger as it is revealed that another beforeigner appears - a man from the future. This raises even more questions about the unexplainable phenomenon happening in Oslo.
Overall, the first episode of Beforeigners is a captivating and intriguing introduction to this unique concept. The focus on the challenges faced by the beforeigners and their integration into a new society makes for thought-provoking viewing, and the excellent performances of the actors add to the overall quality of the show.
