Ep 19. Cousin B.J.

  • December 9, 1989

Beetlejuice is a classic animated series that originally aired in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The show follows the adventures of a mischievous ghost named Beetlejuice and his human friend Lydia Deetz. In episode 19 of season 1, titled "Cousin B.J.", the duo is joined by Beetlejuice's cousin, who causes all sorts of chaos and mayhem.

The episode begins with Lydia and Beetlejuice enjoying a game of miniature golf when they're suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Beetlejuice's cousin, B.J. As soon as B.J. appears, it's clear that he's nothing like Beetlejuice. He's polite, well-mannered, and seems to have none of the mischief and mayhem that Beetlejuice is known for. Lydia is immediately suspicious of B.J., but Beetlejuice insists that he's harmless.

Despite his polite demeanor, B.J. quickly proves to be a source of trouble for both Beetlejuice and Lydia. He constantly interrupts their fun by insisting on playing board games and reading books, and he even tries to clean up their messy living room. Beetlejuice is frustrated by his cousin's behavior, but he can't bring himself to be mean to him, since he's family.

As the day goes on, the trio heads to the Neitherworld (a sort of parallel universe that Beetlejuice and other ghosts inhabit) to visit some of Beetlejuice's friends. B.J. seems fascinated by the strange creatures he encounters there, but he still doesn't seem interested in any mischief. This leads Lydia to suspect that B.J. might actually be a spy sent by Beetlejuice's arch-nemesis, the evil ghost Prince Vince.

As the episode continues, Lydia and Beetlejuice try to keep an eye on B.J. while still having fun in the Neitherworld. They try to get him to cause some chaos by playing pranks on each other, but B.J. just doesn't seem capable of it. Meanwhile, Lydia continues to investigate whether B.J. is really who he says he is.

The episode ends with a climactic showdown between B.J. and Prince Vince, who has finally tracked down the trio in the Neitherworld. It's revealed that B.J. isn't actually a spy, but just a pacifist who doesn't believe in causing trouble. Beetlejuice is actually impressed with his cousin's attitude, and the two of them reconcile.

Overall, "Cousin B.J." is a fun and lighthearted episode of Beetlejuice that shows a different side of the show's titular character. While fans of the series are used to Beetlejuice causing all sorts of mischief and chaos, "Cousin B.J." introduces a new perspective on what it means to be a ghost in the Neitherworld. The episode also features some great humor and fun scenes, including some especially wacky antics from Beetlejuice's friends in the Neitherworld.
