The episode begins with Bear receiving a letter from Doc Hogg, the veterinarian. Doc Hogg is going out of town and needs someone to take care of his animal patients while he's away. Bear is more than happy to help out, so he and his friends head over to the Doc's office to get a rundown on what needs to be done.

Doc Hogg shows them around the office and introduces them to some of the animals under his care. There's a hamster named Betsy, a fish named Franklin, and a bird named Bella. Doc Hogg gives Bear and his friends instructions on how to feed and care for the animals, and even shows them how to give Betsy her medicine.

Bear and his friends are excited to be helping out, but they soon realize that taking care of animals is easier said than done. Tutter the mouse accidentally spills all the hamster food, and Treelo the lemur gets a little too excited and scares Franklin the fish. It's chaos at the vet's office, and Bear is worried that they won't be able to handle it.

Luckily, help arrives in the form of a friendly veterinarian named Dr. Giggles. She's heard about Bear and his friends taking care of Doc Hogg's patients, and she decides to lend a hand. Dr. Giggles shows them how to calm down scared animals, and gives them some tips on how to make sure all the animals get the care they need.

With Dr. Giggles' help, Bear and his friends get the hang of taking care of animals, and they start to have fun. They play with Betsy the hamster, dance with Franklin the fish, and sing with Bella the bird. It's a great day at the vet's office, and Bear is proud of his friends for being such good caregivers.

When Doc Hogg returns from his trip, he's pleased to see that all his patients are happy and healthy. He thanks Bear and his friends for taking such good care of them, and tells them that they've made a real difference in the animals' lives.

"The Big Blue Housecall" is a heartwarming episode about the importance of caring for animals.
