Beakman's World is an American educational television show that aims to teach kids about science in an entertaining and engaging way. In season 1 episode 1, titled "Rain, Beak-Mania and Volcanoes," the audience is introduced to the eccentric scientist Beakman, who is played by Paul Zaloom. Beakman's World is set in a laboratory, and Beakman is always accompanied by his trusty sidekick, a rat named Lester.

The episode begins with Beakman introducing the concept of rain and what causes it to happen. He asks Lester to help demonstrate by pouring water on him, but Lester throws the bucket at him instead, causing Beakman to duck out of the way. Beakman then expands on his explanation of rain by talking about the water cycle and how it works.

Next, Beakman moves on to the topic of volcanoes, which he describes as "the earth's stomach." He explains how volcanoes are formed from molten rock and magma that rise up from deep within the earth's core. To help demonstrate the concept, Beakman creates a miniature volcano in the lab using baking soda and vinegar.

In the midst of his volcano demonstration, Beakman is interrupted by a surprise guest, a Beak-Maniac, who is played by actress Teri Garr. Beak-Maniac is a devoted fan of Beakman's and has come to the lab to meet him in person. Beakman is initially annoyed by her presence, but he soon warms up to her and allows her to help him with his experiment.

With the help of an excited Beak-Maniac, Beakman creates a more massive, explosive volcano using dry ice and hot water. The experiment is chaotic, with the lab exploding in smoke and noise, but Beakman and Beak-Maniac are thrilled by the result.

The episode comes to a close with a "rat chat," in which Beakman and Lester answer questions about science from kids who have written in. The questions are varied, covering topics like fossils, static electricity, and the solar system. Beakman and Lester give entertaining and informative answers to each question, using humor and demonstrations to make the science concepts come alive.

Overall, "Rain, Beak-Mania and Volcanoes" is a fun and engaging introduction to the world of science for kids. Beakman's enthusiasm and humor make even complex science concepts feel accessible and entertaining, while his demonstrations and experiments help to bring the key ideas to life. The show is a classic example of educational programming that manages to educate and entertain at the same time, making it a valuable resource for parents and educators looking to spark kids' interest in science.
