In Baywatch season 2 episode 22, titled "Summer of '85," the gang reflects on their fondest memories of the summer of '85, which was a particularly memorable one for many of them. Mitch recalls meeting his first wife Gayle, while Craig reminisces about a summer fling with a girl named Heather. Meanwhile, Eddie recalls a prank war between him and Shauni and Jill remembers a particularly dangerous rescue they had to do.
As they reminisce, the group also deals with some current issues on the beach. A new lifeguard, Summer, is struggling to find her footing on the team and is being bullied by some of the more veteran guards. Mitch takes her under his wing and helps her build confidence, but the bullies continue to berate her on the job. Meanwhile, a group of rowdy surfers are causing trouble on the beach, refusing to follow the rules and endangering the other beachgoers. Eddie and Shauni try to handle the situation but the surfers push back, leading to a dangerous confrontation.
Throughout the episode, the flashbacks to the summer of '85 add a nostalgic, bittersweet tone to the present-day scenes. It's clear that while the group has faced many challenges and changes over the years, they still hold onto the memories of that particular summer as a special time in their lives.
As the episode comes to a close, the group comes together to rescue a young girl caught in a rip current. Through their teamwork and dedication, they are able to save her and are reminded of the importance of their job as lifeguards. The episode ends with a touching scene of the group gathered around a bonfire, sharing stories and memories from that summer thirty years ago. It's a reminder that while time may have passed and things may have changed, the bonds of friendship and the memories of a special time can never be erased.
