Batman: The Animated Series is a critically acclaimed and widely beloved animated television show that aired in the early 1990s. Based on the comic book character of the same name, the show followed the adventures of billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne (voiced by Kevin Conroy) and his alter ego, the crime-fighting Dark Knight known as Batman, as he battled some of Gotham City's most notorious villains.
Season 2, episode 20 of Batman is titled "Deep Freeze." In this episode, the villainous Mr. Freeze returns to wreak havoc on Gotham City once again. Mr. Freeze, also known as Victor Fries, is a cryogenicist who became the supervillain he is after an accident that left him unable to survive outside of sub-zero temperatures. He seeks to find a way to cure his condition and restore his life, but his methods involve criminal activity that puts him at odds with Batman.
As the episode begins, Mr. Freeze has been released from Arkham Asylum and is once again on the loose in Gotham City. He is determined to continue his experiments with cryogenic technology, and to this end, he orchestrates a series of thefts of valuable diamonds and scientific equipment.
Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is attending a charity event at the Gotham Museum of Natural History, where he reconnects with his old flame, Dr. Pamela Isley (also known as Poison Ivy). Pamela is there to unveil her latest botanical creation, a rare plant that can survive in sub-zero temperatures. Mr. Freeze has his eye on this plant, however, and he steals it from the museum.
Batman soon discovers that Mr. Freeze is behind the theft of the plant, and he teams up with Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) to track him down. They eventually catch up with Mr. Freeze at a cryogenic lab he has set up in the heart of the city. There, they are confronted by Mr. Freeze's latest creation, a giant ice monster that he has created to protect him and his technology.
Batman and Batgirl face off against the ice monster in a thrilling battle, using their advanced gadgets and martial arts skills to try to take it down. Meanwhile, Mr. Freeze tries to escape with his cryogenic equipment and his stolen plant, but he is finally apprehended by the dynamic duo.
The episode ends with Mr. Freeze back in Arkham Asylum, thwarted once again in his quest to cure his cryogenic condition. Bruce Wayne and Pamela Isley part ways once again, with Bruce showing a hint of regret at what might have been. And Batman and Batgirl ride off into the night, ready to face whatever other challenges await them in Gotham City.
