Batman: The Animated Series season 2 episode 6, titled "House & Garden," follows Batman as he investigates a string of kidnappings by Poison Ivy. The episode begins with a young boy named Timmy being kidnapped from his home, and Batman soon discovers that he is not the only child to be taken in the same manner. All of the kidnapped children have one thing in common: their fathers are wealthy and they live in luxurious homes.
As the investigation progresses, Batman discovers that the kidnapper is none other than Poison Ivy, who has been using her plant-based powers to create exact replicas of the kidnapped children. She has then replaced the children with the replicas, which she has grown herself, in an effort to "save" them from their wealthy, materialistic lifestyles. Ivy's goal is to raise the children as her own, teaching them to live in harmony with nature and turning them into "her little Ivy League."
As Batman attempts to rescue the real children from Ivy's clutches, he comes face to face with some difficult questions about the nature of parenthood and the responsibilities that come with it. He must also confront his own fears about what it means to have a family and to be a father figure.
Overall, "House & Garden" is a thoughtful and emotional episode that explores some complex themes. It features some standout voice performances, particularly from Diane Pershing as Poison Ivy, and is sure to leave a lasting impression on fans of the series.
