In Bates Motel season 5 episode 9 entitled "Visiting Hours," tensions are high in the wake of Norman Bates' (Freddie Highmore) latest violent outburst. His usual coping mechanisms seem to be failing him as he struggles to hold on to his sanity. Meanwhile, Sheriff Greene (Brooke Smith) is hot on his trail, determined to expose his dark secrets once and for all.
As Norman's mental state continues to deteriorate, his mother's (Vera Farmiga) presence becomes more and more pronounced. Despite her death, Norma's influence over her son remains strong, and she appears to him in hallucinations and visions. But when a psychiatrist (Damon Gupton) is brought in to evaluate Norman's condition, it becomes clear that his mother's hold over him is not healthy and could be contributing to his dangerous behavior.
Meanwhile, Dylan (Max Thieriot) pays a visit to Emma (Olivia Cooke) and her mother (Karina Logue) in Seattle, hoping to bring them back to White Pine Bay. Emma is hesitant to return to the town that holds so many painful memories for her, but Dylan insists that they need to be there for Norman during this difficult time.
In the midst of all this turmoil, Chick (Ryan Hurst) continues to meddle in Norman's affairs, hoping to profit from the chaos that surrounds him. But as the situation becomes more precarious, even Chick may find himself in over his head.
"Visiting Hours" is a tense and emotionally charged episode that delves deeper into Norman's psyche than ever before. As the end of the series draws near, the stakes have never been higher, and fans will be on the edge of their seats as they wait to see what fate has in store for the troubled Bates family.
