The episode "Inseparable" of Bates Motel season 5 follows the intense relationship between Norman and his recently arrived estranged brother Dylan. The episode begins with Norman and Dylan in a somewhat peaceful state, trying to reconnect after years of being estranged. Meanwhile, Sheriff Greene is investigating the suspicious death of a man named Ed, who was found dead in the lake. When the sheriff questions Norman, he becomes suspicious and asks to see his mother, Norma.
Norman, of course, denies that his mother is still alive, and the sheriff is skeptical. Dylan tries to convince Norma to reveal herself to the sheriff, but Norma tells him that she's not ready to come out of hiding. While Norman and Dylan are catching up, Emma arrives to visit Norman. Dylan is surprised to see Emma but is more shocked when he realizes that Emma is pregnant with Norman's child. He tries to convince her to leave Norman and start a new life together, but Emma loves Norman too much to leave him.
Dylan and Emma's conversation is interrupted when they hear a loud noise coming from outside the motel. When they investigate, they find that it's Chick, who's been shot and is bleeding out. Chick tells them that he was hunting and was accidentally shot by a teenager. Chick begs them to help him, but Norman sees this as an opportunity to get rid of Chick once and for all.
Dylan decides to take Chick to the hospital, and Emma goes with him, leaving Norman behind. Meanwhile, Norman decides to confront the teenager who shot Chick. He finds the teenager and, after a brief conversation, he decides to take him back to the motel. Norman ties the teenager up in the basement, and the two of them engage in a twisted game of "house." Norman forces the teenager to act out scenes from his favorite movies in front of him. The teenager is terrified, and Norman is becoming increasingly unhinged.
While Norman is playing his twisted game, Dylan returns to the motel with Chick's body. When he discovers what Norman is doing, he's horrified. He tries to convince Norman to let the teenager go, but Norman refuses. He's become obsessed with the idea of having someone who is completely under his control.
As the episode progresses, the tension between Norman and Dylan continues to escalate. Dylan is starting to realize just how dangerous Norman has become, and he knows that he needs to get Emma and his family as far away from Norman as possible. Meanwhile, Norman is becoming more and more erratic, seemingly unable to control his own impulses.
"Inseparable" is an intense and disturbing episode that brings the show's main storyline to a boiling point. The relationship between Norman and Dylan is complex and nuanced, and the tension between the two characters is palpable throughout the episode. The episode also explores the depths of Norman's psychosis in a way that is both disturbing and fascinating. Fans of the show will not want to miss this gripping and intense episode.
