Norman Bates is still struggling to come to terms with the death of his beloved teacher and friend, Miss Watson. Meanwhile, he continues to have disturbing blackouts, which he can't seem to explain. Norma urges her son to seek help, but he insists that he can handle it on his own.
At the same time, Norma is anxious about the proposed bypass that would divert traffic away from the town, potentially hurting their business. She turns to the help of a city council member, but it quickly becomes clear that their interests are not aligned.
As the plot thickens, Norman befriends a mysterious young man named Cody Brennan, who he meets while working at the hardware store. Cody seems to understand Norman in a way that no one else does, and their friendship quickly deepens. However, Norma becomes suspicious of Cody's intentions and tries to keep her son away from him.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Romero is still investigating the murder of Miss Watson, and his search leads him to a suspicious looking pit in the woods. As he begins to dig deeper, he uncovers some unsettling details about the town's past.
The episode takes a dark turn when a tragedy strikes, forcing Norman to confront some uncomfortable truths about himself. As always, the show is masterful in its portrayal of the complex relationship between Norma and Norman, as well as the underlying tensions simmering beneath the surface of the idyllic town.
