Ep 6. The Truth

Norma gets some unexpected help uncovering the truth about her husband's death on this episode of Bates Motel. Meanwhile, Norman's new friend Cody exerts a dangerous influence on him, and Dylan struggles to keep his drug business together.

In the opening scene, Norma is at home frantically searching for something. She's clearly anxious and upset, and it soon becomes clear that what she's looking for is the key to the lockbox where she keeps her husband's financial records. When she can't find the key, she heads to the bank to try and get the records without it. However, the bank tells her that she needs the key to access the box.

Meanwhile, Norman is hanging out with Cody, the girl he met in the last episode. She's showing him how to hotwire cars, and it's clear that she's a very bad influence on him. They end up stealing a car and taking it for a joyride, and later they sneak into the school swimming pool to have a late-night swim.

Back at the motel, Dylan is struggling to keep his drug business together. One of his customers gets angry when Dylan tries to raise prices, and things quickly turn violent. Dylan barely manages to avoid getting hurt, but he knows he needs to find a way to solve this problem before things get even worse.

As the episode progresses, Norma becomes increasingly desperate to find the key. She starts to suspect that one of her sons has taken it, but when she confronts them they both deny it. She eventually decides to break into the safety deposit box, and she manages to do so with some help from her new friend, the town sheriff.

Inside the box, Norma finds some documents that seem to suggest her husband was involved in some shady dealings. She also finds a flash drive with some mysterious video files on it. She takes the documents and the flash drive to the sheriff, hoping that he can help her figure out what they mean.

Meanwhile, Norman's relationship with Cody continues to escalate. They start to bond over their shared experience of having difficult family situations, and Norman starts to see her as a kindred spirit. However, when Cody invites him to join her in a plan to rob a house, things quickly spiral out of control. Norman ends up in a dangerous situation that he's not sure he can get out of.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with several of the characters in peril. It's clear that the truth about Norma's husband's death is starting to come to light, but it's not yet clear what the ramifications of that will be for the various characters on the show.
