In Bar Rescue season 5 episode 6, titled "To Protect and to (Over) Serve," host Jon Taffer visits a bar in Phoenix, Arizona called The Hartford. The owner, Kevin, is a former Marine who is struggling to keep his bar afloat. The establishment is located near a strip club, and Kevin has problems with rowdy and sometimes violent patrons who come in after spending time at the club.
When Jon arrives, he immediately notices that the bar is dark and unkempt. There is also an overpowering smell of smoke, as Kevin allows smoking inside the bar. Jon meets with Kevin and his wife, Dawn, to discuss the problems with the bar. Jon tells them that they need to clean up the place and make it more inviting, as well as implement policies to keep their customers safe.
As Jon and his team begin to make changes, they discover that the bar is also in violation of several health codes. They work to clean up the kitchen and ensure that the food being served is safe to eat. Jon also hires a new security team to keep the patrons in check and prevent fights from breaking out.
As the renovations continue, Jon realizes that Kevin is struggling with personal issues. He encourages Kevin to seek therapy and work on his mental health. Jon also tries to help Kevin and Dawn repair their relationship, as they have been arguing constantly.
Despite some setbacks, Jon and his team are able to complete the renovations and rebrand the bar as The H.T. Grill. They hold a relaunch party, and the new policies and procedures are a success. The bar is packed with customers who are enjoying themselves in the safe and welcoming environment.
Overall, "To Protect and to (Over) Serve" is a classic episode of Bar Rescue. Jon Taffer and his team face a tough challenge in transforming a rundown bar into a safe and inviting establishment. But by implementing new policies and working with Kevin and Dawn, they are able to turn things around and create a successful business.
