In Bar Rescue season 4 episode 14, titled Scoreboard to Death, host Jon Taffer travels to a sports bar in Lakewood, Colorado called Scoreboard. The bar is owned by a husband and wife team, John and Shelly, who have invested almost everything they have into the business. However, despite being located near a major sports arena, the bar is struggling to attract customers and is in danger of closing down.
When Jon arrives, he is immediately taken aback by the state of the bar. The decor is outdated and shabby, and the bar itself is not set up to allow for efficient service. Jon also discovers that the owners have a dysfunctional relationship and are unable to communicate effectively, which is causing the business to suffer.
As Jon delves deeper into the issues plaguing Scoreboard, he discovers that the kitchen is in dire need of an overhaul. The equipment is old and some of it is not working properly, leading to poorly prepared food. The menu is also confusing and unappetizing, and Jon realizes that it is not attracting customers.
To address these issues, Jon brings in his team of experts, including Chef Ryan Scott, who revamps the menu and teaches the kitchen staff new techniques and recipes. Jon also brings in mixologist Phil Wills, who creates new cocktails and trains the bartenders on how to make them quickly and efficiently.
As the renovation progresses, Jon starts to see a change in the owners. They begin to communicate more effectively and work together to improve the business. However, Jon knows that the true test will be when the bar opens for a relaunch party.
When the relaunch finally arrives, the bar is packed with people eager to see the changes. The new menu is a hit, with customers raving about the delicious food. The bartenders are also able to keep up with the demand for drinks, thanks to the new training they received from Phil.
Overall, Scoreboard is transformed from a failing sports bar into a thriving business. The owners are now communicating effectively and working together to ensure the success of their business. Jon leaves feeling satisfied with the work he has done and confident that Scoreboard will remain a staple in the Lakewood community for years to come.
