Ep 3. Mayoi Snail (Part 1)

Araragi is trying to get Donuts, and on the way back, he ends up meeting a lost snail girl, Mayoi Hachikuji. She's been wandering around for ten years, unable to find her way back to her mother's house. Araragi offers to help her get home, but Mayoi insists that she's fine and doesn't need help. However, Araragi persisted and convinced her to let him help her.

During their journey, Mayoi and Araragi have a series of wacky conversations that are full of funny misunderstandings. However, Mayoi's evasive answers lead Araragi to believe that she has ulterior motives. Their amusing dialogues are interrupted when they encounter a strange force that causes Mayoi to disappear suddenly.

Araragi is struck with confusion and panic and is determined to find Mayoi. He eventually discovers her near a shrine called the North Shirahebi Shrine. There, they meet a strange, eccentric woman named Oshino Meme, who agrees to help Araragi find a way to return Mayoi to the world of the living.

Oshino reveals that Mayoi is a lost spirit that has been wandering for ten years since her death. Araragi soon learns that he must make a pact with the snail god in order to return Mayoi to the afterlife. However, before he can even try to make the pact, he must first learn the god's true name.

Overall this episode sets the tone for the season by blending humor and drama with a bit of supernatural spookiness.
