Bad Guys is a 2014 Korean drama that aired on OCN. The drama is a crime thriller that revolves around the story of a detective who assembles a team of criminals to solve crimes that are beyond the jurisdiction of the law. The show is led by Sang-Jung Kim, who plays "Oh Gu Tak", a rebel detective who is ready to do anything to catch criminals. His overwhelming desire to bring justice to the victims of heinous crimes leads him to assemble a group of three criminals, including Ma Dong-seok (as "Park Woong-Cheol"), a street fighter, Park Hae-Jin (as "Lee Jung-Moon"), a master hitman and Jo Dong-hyuk (as "Jung Tae-Soo"), a genius hacker.
The team of misfits sets out on a mission to capture the most dangerous criminals in the city, who have been able to escape the law through a series of sophisticated maneuvers. Together, they solve cases that the police have been unable to resolve for years, and bring the guilty to justice.
The first episode of the series begins with the introduction of the main characters. Oh Gu Tak, who lost his daughter to a serial killer, is determined to bring the culprit to justice. However, his unorthodox and violent methods lead to his suspension from duty. He soon meets with Park Woong-Cheol, a street fighter who has just been released from prison. The detective offers him a deal; in exchange for his freedom, Woong-Cheol will help Gu Tak to catch the most wanted criminals in the city.
In the second episode, Lee Jung-Moon, a hitman, is introduced. Lee is caught by the police after he carries out a series of murders, but instead of sentencing him to prison, Detective Oh gives him the opportunity to work for his team. With Lee's help, the group is able to capture a dangerous criminal who has been on the run for years.
As the team works on more cases, they grow closer to each other despite their differences. They learn to trust each other and work together towards their common goal of bringing justice to the victims of crime. Along the way, they face obstacles that threaten to tear the team apart, but their bond only grows stronger in the face of adversity.
The show's pacing is fast, with each episode focusing on a new criminal case. The crimes are often violent and gruesome, and the detectives' methods to catch the criminals are sometimes just as violent. However, the drama does not glorify violence, but highlights the importance of justice and the consequences of one's actions.
The acting in Bad Guys is top-notch, with each actor delivering a strong performance that brings their characters to life. Sang-Jung Kim shines as the tough-as-nails Detective Oh, while Park Hae-Jin's enigmatic portrayal of the hitman Lee Jung-Moon leaves viewers captivated. Ma Dong-seok's performance as the street fighter Park Woong-Cheol adds a layer of complexity to the character, making him more than just a common thug.
Overall, Bad Guys is an intense and action-packed drama that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The show is not for the faint of heart, with its violent and graphic nature, but for fans of crime thrillers, it is a must-watch. It explores the themes of justice, revenge, and redemption, and is a great example of what can be accomplished when quality writing, directing, and acting come together. The show proves that even the bad guys can do good.
