Intersections in Real Time is the eighteenth episode of the fourth season of Babylon 5, a science-fiction television series. In this episode, the main character, Captain John Sheridan, is captured by the Earth Alliance, who suspect him of being involved in certain political and military actions.
The entire episode takes place in a single room where Sheridan is being interrogated by two Earth Alliance agents, interrogations that grow increasingly violent and invasive. Throughout the episode, the audience witnesses the brutal psychological tactics these agents use to try and extract information from Sheridan. As the episode progresses, the interrogation becomes surreal and disorienting, blurring the lines between reality and illusion.
The episode explores the theme of authoritarianism and the effects of the abuse of power on both the oppressed and the oppressor. By examining the psychological toll of torture on Sheridan, the audience is shown how cruelty begets cruelty, and how torture can cause irreparable damage to both the people being tortured and the people doing the torturing.
