The Longest Road is the fifth episode of the tenth season of the adrenaline-fueled reality show Ax Men, which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the incredibly dangerous and challenging world of logging in America's remote forests. In this episode, the stakes are higher than ever as rival crews try to outdo each other on some of the toughest terrain in the Pacific Northwest.
The episode opens with a breathtaking aerial shot of the rugged landscape around Washington's Olympic Peninsula, where the crews of Rygaard Logging, Pihl Logging, and O'Brien Logging are all vying for the same precious resource: giant trees that can fetch millions of dollars on the timber market. With just a few weeks left in the season, tensions are running high as each team tries to secure a big haul that will put them over the top.
At Rygaard, the focus is on finishing up a job at a steep, rocky site where the terrain is so treacherous that the loggers have to rappel down to the trees using ropes and harnesses. Company owner Craig Rygaard is determined to make up for lost time after a series of setbacks earlier in the season, but he's concerned that his crew is pushing themselves too hard and risking their safety. A mishap with one of the cables used to hoist the logs proves his fears are not unfounded, and tensions flare as Craig clashes with his son Gabe over how to move forward.
Meanwhile, at Pihl Logging, the team is struggling to keep pace with their rivals as they tackle the daunting challenge of accessing a remote patch of forest known as "the longest road". Led by patriarch Mike Pihl, the group faces a grueling journey of over 25 miles just to get to the site where they hope to strike it big. Along the way, they have to navigate treacherous mud, steep inclines, and narrow bridges that threaten to derail their entire operation. With tempers high and spirits low, the crew works tirelessly to cut down the massive trees that will hopefully make the journey worthwhile.
For O'Brien Logging, the competition is closer to home as they try to outdo their neighbors at Rygaard and secure a lucrative contract to clear some valuable timber from private land. Led by tough-talking boss Jesse Browning, the team faces a race against time as they try to make up for lost days due to heavy rain and harsh working conditions. With each member of the crew pushing themselves to the limit, it's a constant battle to keep morale up and avoid the kind of mishaps that can prove fatal in this line of work.
As the episode draws to a close, viewers are left on the edge of their seats as each crew races to finish their work before the season comes to a close. Tensions and rivalries are at an all-time high as every logger fights tooth and nail for every inch of territory and every precious tree. With lives and fortunes on the line, every decision counts, and every moment is fraught with danger. Who will come out on top in this high-stakes game of logging roulette? Tune in to Ax Men season 10 episode 5, The Longest Road, to find out.
