Jenna Hamilton and her friends are seniors in high school now, and they're dealing with all the usual stresses of impending graduation and the uncertain future that lies beyond it. Jenna is still dating her longtime boyfriend Matty McKibben, but their relationship seems to be sputtering a bit as they both try to figure out what they want out of life. Meanwhile, Jenna's mom Lacey is pregnant again, which puts a strain on her marriage to Jenna's dad Kevin. And Jenna's best friend Tamara has gotten engaged to her boyfriend Adam, even though they're still in high school, which creates all sorts of drama.
In this episode, things come to a head as Jenna and her friends gather for their annual holiday party. As usual, there's drama galore, as Jenna tries to keep the peace between all her friends while navigating her own complicated feelings about Matty. But things really hit the fan when a secret that's been lurking in the background for years finally comes to light: a revelation that could change everything for everyone involved.
Without giving too much away, this episode is full of surprises, heartbreak, and unexpected twists. We see a lot of growth and change in these characters, who have been with us for five seasons now and have become like old friends. There are also plenty of laughs, though, as the show's trademark humor shines through in even the darkest moments.
One of the things that really sets Awkward. apart from other teen dramas is its honesty. The characters are flawed and messy, and they make mistakes (sometimes big ones). But they also learn from those mistakes and grow as people. We see them struggle with issues that are all too real for teenagers today, from relationship troubles to self-doubt to pressure to figure out what they want to do with their lives. And we see them support each other through it all, even when they don't always agree.
At its core, though, this show is about friendship. Jenna and her friends have been through so much together, and they've come out the other side stronger. They know each other's secrets and flaws, but they love each other anyway. They're there for each other through thick and thin, and they're never afraid to speak their minds (sometimes to hilarious effect).
Overall, this is a great episode of a great show. If you've been following Awkward. since the beginning, you won't be disappointed by this latest installment. And if you're new to the series, it's the perfect introduction to these lovable, flawed characters and their world.
