No two teams are as well-renowned or revered in the world of Marvel Comics as the Avengers and the X-Men. It was inevitable that the two stables would eventually clash and Marvel released a 12-issue mini-series of the two teams going to war with one another early in 2012.
Avengers vs. X-Men: War Journals is a behind-the-scenes documentary web series detailing all of the creative decisions, meetings, ideas, arguments and passion that went into the making of that historic comic event. Much like the extra features on a DVD, War Journals gives viewers an all-access pass into the creative process at Marvel Comics for the very first time to show exactly how much work goes into creating these stories that have been loved by millions for generations.
Each webisode talks to the writers, the artists, the executives and the fans of both the Avengers and the X-Men comics and gives further insight into why both teams of superheroes have endured and endeared for so long. Avengers vs. X-Men: War Journals chronicles the series conception, the assigning of the writers and artists and the launch of the first issue as well as everything else along the way. Marvel is usually very secretive about its creative process and War Journals makes history for its unprecedented access.
The individual writers and artists of the comic series are also profiled as they talk about how they first broke into the very competitive industry of comic book creation and what path lead them to the X-Men and Avengers universe. Characters such as Hope Summers and the Phoenix Five are also discussed along with their importance to the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline.
Another controversy surrounding the comic is how the storyline ends and which team prevails. The web series breaks down the ending of the last issue of Avengers vs. X-Men and discusses what characters are most affected by it, what it means for the future of the Marvel Universe and what's next for both teams.
