Ep 12. The Storm

Aang and his friends are on a ship in the middle of a storm, and he’s feeling guilty about abandoning his training with Katara in order to have some fun on the ship. Meanwhile, Zuko and Uncle Iroh are on land, and Zuko is consumed with finding and capturing Aang.

As the storm intensifies, Aang and Katara take refuge below deck, where Aang shares the story of his past, which includes being frozen in ice for 100 years. Back on land, Zuko demands that his uncle tell him about his own past, which we learn includes a history of cowardice during past wars.

The storm rages on, and Aang’s friends are forced to abandon ship, leaving Aang and Katara alone to face the storm and Aang’s guilt. As they fight to keep the ship from going down, they both have emotional breakthroughs about the importance of each other in their lives.

Meanwhile, Zuko’s rage at his uncle and his obsession with capturing the Avatar continue to grow, even as he learns the truth about his uncle’s past and gains a new appreciation for him.

The episode ends with the storm finally subsiding, Aang and Katara reconciling, and Zuko and his uncle setting sail again in search of the Avatar.
