Eren and Mikasa rush to the inner gate as Titans continue to make their way inside Wall Rose. As they arrive, they encounter a group of soldiers who recognize Eren as a member of the Scout Regiment. The soldiers demand that Eren prove that he is not a Titan in disguise by using his powers to transform and fight against the Titans. Eren hesitates, but Mikasa encourages him to do what needs to be done.
Meanwhile, Hange and Moblit lead an investigation of the village where Connie's family lives, as they suspect that the Titans may have originated from there. They discover that all of the villagers who are still alive are behaving strangely, as if they are under a spell. Hange decides to focus on the Titans that were found in the village and sends Moblit to report their findings to Erwin.
Back at the inner gate, the soldiers become more aggressive towards Eren, demanding that he transform or be killed. The situation grows increasingly tense as Eren struggles to control his powers, and Mikasa becomes more and more concerned for his safety. Just as things reach a breaking point, Captain Levi arrives and orders the soldiers to stand down. He immediately recognizes the danger that Eren's powers pose, but he also knows that Eren is needed to fight against the Titans.
Levi takes charge of the situation and orders Eren and Mikasa to escort the remaining soldiers to safety, while he and his squad stay behind to take on the Titans. As they begin to fight, Levi reveals that he knows about Eren's father and the secret that he left behind. He tells Eren that he needs to learn to control his powers, or risk becoming a liability to everyone around him.
As Levi and his squad take on the Titans, Eren and Mikasa lead the remaining soldiers to safety. However, they are soon pursued by a mysterious Titan that seems to be more intelligent than the others. Eren and Mikasa fight against the Titan, but it seems to be too powerful for them to handle. Just as all seems lost, the mysterious Titan suddenly stops attacking and retreats back towards the inner gate.
The episode ends with Mikasa realizing that the Titans may have a more complex agenda than anyone had previously thought, and Eren coming to terms with the fact that he needs to learn to control his powers if he is going to survive. The final shot shows Erwin surveying the damage and contemplating the larger implications of the Titan invasion.
