In Season 8, Episode 1 of Ask This Old House, the team is back and ready to tackle more projects to help homeowners with their DIY needs. The episode kicks off with landscape contractor Roger Cook who visits a homeowner's property to help them redesign their backyard by creating more space for entertaining and adding new hardscaping features. Roger shows how to plan out the project, choose the right materials, and properly install a new fire pit and patio.
Next up, host Kevin O'Connor and general contractor Tom Silva visit another homeowner to help with insulation issues in their attic. With winter approaching, the homeowners want to make sure their home is properly insulated to stay warm and save money on their energy bills. Finally, plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey visits a homeowner to help them install a new smart thermostat that can be controlled with a smartphone app. Richard shows how to remove the old thermostat and properly install the new one, and how to set up the app so the homeowner can easily control their home's temperature from anywhere.
